Sizing for freestyle skis

I have probably a basic question, but is sizing for a freestyle ski the same as it would be for a downhill ski? It seems to me like you'd want to go to a smaller ski, but I really don't know. I'm looking for some cheap entry level type freestyle skis. I ski a 175 now. Any insight?

If you are wanting a ski strictly for freestyle then you should probably go for a shorter ski than you normally ski on. A shorter ski will make you more maneuverable and make tricks easier.

That's what I figured. But how much shorter though? If I have a ski thats as, say as tall as the top of my head, should I get a freestyle ski thats somewhere around my chin? or nose? I would assume if I were going to get a twin tip powder ski I'd go with the same size as normal, but I dunno.

If I'm on a 175 regularly, would a 161 be too short?

I would think you can get away with a 161, but wouldn't go any shorter. Any larger length difference and I think it will ski too much differently.

You'll be fine. I'm 5'10" and I'm skiing a set of 179s as all around skis.
