i've pondered the idea of picking up skiing too, but i have fragile knees...

but i also think picking up skiing would be good too cause eventually i'd like to have a kid of my own. and you can get little ones on skiis before you can on an board.

and then again..... do i really want to pick up ANOTHER expensive sport?

well, I gave it a try today, and had some fun. definitely a different feeling, but I picked it up pretty quickly.

I would think if you understand the whole concept of balance and edging, you should be able to crossover fairly quickly.

As for comparison's to mountain biking, skiing shares some commonalities but mostly with DH biking. The biggest points are balance, looking ahead, and staying relaxed / loose. You can transfer these skills, although I still have a hell of a time staying relaxed on my bike when going through rock gardens. I usually end up doing some sort of ejection...

I rode freighttrain when i was up at whistler and isd pretty similar in the winter to the summer. I was surprised how similar fat skis are to DH bikes

Well, its about a year later, and I have a little skiing under my belt. I didn't get in as much as would have liked last year (learning a new sport kind of gets in the way when you're with friends). However, I think something must have carried over from mountain biking, as the transition was fairly smooth. Granted, I didn't immediately become the skiing master I thought I would be, but I did do a black on my fourth day, and landed a 180 in my backyard on my fifth.

I'm looking forward to this season for sure, and hoping to maybe catch up to my snowboarding skills.

Thanks for all of the advice.
