Having the Guts to Do It

Okay, so it never feels like I have the right forum to put my questions in because I want to talk about skiing "in general"....again, feel free to move this somewhere more appropriate, but for now, I'm going to look at having the "guts, balls, braveness, etc" as equipment. I'm sure you all understand.

After that trip I told you guys about, I feel like a complete novice to the skiing world. I like taking risks and a sense of adventure gives me that adrenaline rush to keep me going, even if I'm nervous to begin with. I want to go sky diving and bungee jumping. Rock climbing is amazing and I want to get out there to dangle off greater cliffs. I used to skateboard and learning new tricks was awesome, even though it meant scraping myself up and risking broken bones here and there.

There's something about staring down a mountain of snow that was both exciting...and terrifying, though. Maybe because it's fairly new to me or maybe because it's dangerous as hell...I'm not sure, lol. Looking back to your earlier years of skiing and boarding, were you ever scared or was the rush enough for you? Do some of the more extreme slopes and adventures still make you tense up or did you get over that years ago?

I have always had alot of confidence in my skiing. When my parents taught me to ski I had almost no limitations in what and where I could ski. The only limits they gave me was I needed to be able to turn and stop as soon as they asked me to. If I could do that I was able to ski anything. I took this as a challenge finding steeper and steeper hills to test myself on. I rarely look at a trail map or trail names and ratings. I just ski everywhere on the mountain looking for steeper and nastier terrain. I can't tell you the last time I turned back from skiing down something(in bounds).

The only time nerves and fear are present for me are as I am looking at a gap jump for the first time. I always think about what could happen if I come up short. Once I switch my thinking to the speed and how much I should pop of the lip The fear goes to the back of my mind. Once I start skiing towards the jump as long as i stay concentrated on what I need to do to make the jump I am good. If I start going back to thinking about not making it I stop and turn away.

Hell ya, that adrenaline rush is the best part! It is what keeps me going back. I too being female tend to be overly cautious when first learning something but then that rush feeling takes over and then I wonder why I didn't try it sooner.
