Question help with my first set up- intermeadiate?

Hello!

I'm finding that trying to figure out what my first ski set-up should be is very stressful! There is so much to choose from and I don't know where to start. I have Skiing & Ski magazine, and that confuses me more.

So can any of you suggest a skis set-up for me? I need skis, boots & poles.

Here's my specs

I'm a 36 yr. old female, 5' 10" and 150 lbs. Right now I'm an advanced beginner, hoping to be an intermediate before the end of the season. I live in Colorado, so I would like a set up that will allow me to ski the powder in the Colorado resorts, but I also hope to eventually do some backcountry.

I really don't know what length, width and brand to go for in a ski. In boots, I'm just clueless. I'd like to have a set up that I can grow into and that might last me 3-5 years. Is that realistic?

If anyone has a book or article to recommend that covers the major brands, that would help too.

Thank you!
