Question Ski Racks

I am moving to NM in a couple weeks and I have a friend who is gonna teach me about XC.

However, I was wondering what is the best way to rack skis. Roof top (scissors type) mount or a hitch rack? I have a Toy suv.

I believe I have the same Toyota SUV? FJ, right? I use a Thule scissor rack and it fits on the lower cross bars of the FJ and is just high enough for the ski to clear the rear bar. Don't have any picture of it on the FJ.
