Well thanks. So it would seem that I am good for the audio, but not so good on buying one already set to go and would be better buying a kit and my own head set? Certainly $15 is a lot cheaper than the difference in price that I have been seeing.

no. you don't need your own headset. All you need is a compatible helmet and then you buy the kit. See here: http://www.rei.com/product/759195

It includes replacement earflaps, speakers, cables, everything.

It might cost more than $15 depending on your helmet model. YMMV.

Oooo. I'd seen the ones with audio systems in them already, but never the headsets like that. I can see a birthday gift in the works already....my guy would absolutely love a set. Thanks!

We got the kit for our helmets and absolutely love it. We tend to not be out at the same time so its nice to have something other than wind to listen to. I'm not prone to walking into people while on my cell and I don't board into people listening to music either At least not on accident.

I love my Giro 9.9 with music set up. I do wish it had an easier to hit mute button. I only use the music on normal days but when there is tons of pow I always turn it off and listen to the music of the powder

I would have always thought riding on a bike (even though I do it anyways) was dangerous, nevermind mountain biking with sound.

I've never heard of these helmets before.

Oddly I never thought twice about cycling, mountain biking, stunt BMXing with a walkman keeping me entertained. Maybe I am just getting older and more cautious as my bones get harder to heal

You're right though, I've done it all my life with almost everything I've done-this is no different.

I bought a Giro brand helmet online and audio kit but it only lasted a day. The ear pieces on the helmet was made out of thin plastic and broke by the end of the day. The cold temperatures did it in…go figure. Definitely get a good helmet first.

Yeah I think my giro is on it's 3rd season too. I've had it out on days when it was -8* and it was fine
