Snow Helmet With Audio

I have been contemplating a helmet with audio for next year, but am concerned about a couple of things.

First up, how distracting are they? It sounds a nice idea because I love to work out to music, but I wouldn't want to wrap myself round a tree because I couldn't concentrate.

Secondly, can the speakers be replaced? Or does the helmet become just a helmet when they die?

I have the smith holt helmet, and the cord that came with it is pretty flimsy so I replaced it with a really nice one connected to an ipod remote control thing.

Personally I have never been distracted or hit anybody because of the music. I absolutely love listening to music when I snowboard it really gets me pumped up.

The Speakers are built into the ear flaps and the ear flaps can be removed/replaced (nice if it is a hot day).

That seems like a good buy for the Holt. I have been looking into this as well. Sometimes the family goes for the entire trip but not everyone is out when I am, while I don't want to go back inside yet, I don't want to be bored either. What range of prices are they running?

i generally set my volume so that i can hear it when riding and when on the lift, but also low enough that i can hear other people talking to me. i sometimes feel like music helps get me into a rhythm when riding.

Do those audio-equipped helmets cost significantly more than the plain helmets? Because it seems pretty inflexible as far as an audio solution...

You can add on headphone earflaps to most Giro helmets. Kits are as cheap as $15. The markup on an audio helmet is usually higher. Plus doing it as an addon kit allows more flexibility in color choices.

naw, I'm just not really into black, and that is what is usually offered. I prefer lighter colors... especially since they are cooler (temperature wise) to wear.
