had one of the least fun bushwacking experiences ever after following the wrong tracks off of the chin. at least the turns up top there were really good, it was nice to actually ride something steep and technical that wasn't bumped out to hell for a change.

17.

Just back from 3 more days at Bohemia. I took a new guy with me this time. He was sort of the athletic type with actual skills, instead of the drunken courage types I usually ride with. As usual, it snowed every day we were there.

This guy found some stuff I hadn't before and I ended up doing lots of drops, steeps, and this one really hairy narrow chute that was between 2 huge cliffs. It was scary and fun (well, maybe only fun after you got down it alive).

Yesterday we enjoyed 5 inches of extra light fluffy stuff, and it just kept snowing, and the conditions kept getting better all day long. It would have been difficult to leave if I had not bruised my coccyx on a rock near the end of the day. I felt violated and I am pretty sure actual penetration occurred. It still hurts to sit down.

Day 11 yesterday. Took my oldest down Shadows... the quintessential Steamboat tree run. Crowds = nonexistent.

Took a couple weeks off since it's been pretty dry in Summit and Eagle counties, but the recent storm brought some goodness for us with it and I spent day 23 yesterday at Keystone, only my second adventure there this year. We beelined into the Outback and lapped a fun set of trees (Widlfire and Pika for those that have been there) all day... found some really decent un-tracked stashed back there, so nice. It was a little dicey since there's been NO snow for a while if you were really pushing it you would blow through the top layer and hit ice every now and again. Keeps you on your toes though!

I've been riding with a lot of skiers this year, and I think it's paying off: these guys charge HARD and in a different way than my friends that ride. Not that my snowboard friends aren't good, they're mostly much better than me, but also not as gung-ho to just do lap after lap after lap after lap. Or wait... maybe they were just always waiting on me to catch me breath!

Also... I just got hired at the contract position I've been at for a year - more money and more days off, I'll be enjoying 3-day riding weekends from here on out. Heading up to Vail Thursday night and staying through the whole weekend. Should be BUENO!

That $hitstorm is hitting us too. Day 12 at an undisclosed Front Range location which served up some EPIC meadow skipping.

Edit: a few shots of the meadows up there:
