One way that I found useful to teach them was to have them follow me and when they start the turn to have them pick up their uphill ski and only edge with the downhill ski. This will allow them to turn the uphill ski parallel with the downhill ski. Keep them doing this and after awhile you will see them turning both skis during the turn.
Also you need time. Lots and lots of time. I have pretty much given up skiing on my own for the last 5 years toi teach my kids. I will tell you this it will pay off.

I think I am about 1 more year away from skiing where I want with my kids and I think only a couple of years to heading out west where I hear there is snow that does not make noise when you ski on it.

I have, Alta and Snowbird for a week. It was before I had kids. I figure if I head back out there I need my kids to be able to ski well and hold there own.
