I would pick PBR over Bud Light, but hey, to each their own. I've never tried Magic Hat. Maybe you should send a sixer out this way for evaluation purposes. The quality of beer an instructor enjoys is a very important consideration when choosing an individual to ski with your children.

Was it like this when you went?

Are you the only one that skis with the kids? Or does your wife ski too? Because you shouldn't wait and deprive them so long of Western goodness.

I'd pick a nice glass of tap water over both those.

Yes, it was like that. Unreal to be able to lauch off stuff and land in feet of powder.

My wife skis with the kids and she has been out west more times then I can count. She went with her parents when she was youngin. My guess is we will be out there in 2010.

My wife and I trade off skiing with the boys (we have 3) and usually make sure we each get several hours of "adult" skiing too when we go up to stay in the mts. You should get out here!

Yeah, that is me. No pole plant.
Maybe that is why I was a terminal blue skier.
The question is...

Why would anyone want to "tool down well groomed pistes in the sunshine" unless the off-piste was total crap (like last weekend)???

But I diverge. Just teach your kid to snowboard and you don't have that snowplow problem ;-)

(Yeah, I know I'm opening myself up to all the comments about the things that newbie snowboarders do).

I had the boy on the snowboard when he was only 1 year old. He did great. When he was 2, he learned he could fall, and it severely impacted his progress.

I think skiing is the right thing for young kids. It's just easier to do as a beginner.

He really wants to board and we do that a little too, but right now I am trying to get him to focus on skiing, so he can develop some independence on the mountain.

as an instructor who has tried to teach a handful of young kids how to ride, i'd have to say that the best thing is to let the kids ski until they are about 5. any younger and they generally haven't developed enough of their balance to be able to pick up on snowboarding that well.

Just let the kid snowplow. As long as he is having fun and in control that is all that matters.

What is the rush to go to parallel skiing anyways?

Try taking him on steeper slopes where snowplowing does not work as well.
