On friday i get up at 4 AM to check the ski report. whistler says -3 C with 26 cm of new snow. I'm thinking this is going to be amazing. I wake my girlfriend up and we drive 3 hours to whistler passing other resorts on the way. We buy our tickets and go up the gondola planning to ride the peak in the AM then go over to 7th on Blackcomb. However Whistler had failed to mention that they had the ENTIRE ALPINE CLOSED because of wind. This left us sking in a foot of fresh snow that had then had an inch of rain pumped into it. What a joke 60+ US dolars to ski on crap. If you are going to close the areas with the fresh snow at least put it in your snow report.

ouch...that sucks...I hate areas that don't do full disclosure in snow reports. I've seen this tactic a lot in the east, it's all propoganda. Unfortunately, it's tough to get unbiased info...

You gotta love ski reports!!! I have noticed this year that the new buzzword for rain is "mixed precipitation." All the local area use the same term, yet the webcams don't lie. Raindrops on the lens of the cam is a dead give away!! But funny how all of the areas use the same term. It's like all the management groups got together at a mutual meeting place...probably a tavern, and amongst other things discussed someone said, "well-what should we call rain this year?"

lets see... it says packed powder as secondary conditions so that must mean ice!

They also have a tendency to get powder and fresh snow confused. When its 32 degrees and snowing it is not powder.

Although I totally agree that driving all that way and not getting to ride what you wanted sucks (I drive up often in the summer so I'm all to aware of the drive

) But at 4am in the morning they probably hadn't made the decision yet weather or not to close a particular area or not. Heck, the people who make the decision were probably still sleeping (I know I would be!)
