European vacation in the fall

When I think of Europe and skiing, I always get these images of gigantic Alps, steep slopes and avalanches. However, I'm sure there must be beginners over there so there must be places that I could go and not kill myself. I have the chance to go to Europe in September with a friend of the family. We would be going to Stockholm but would have a few days at other spots along the way.

I know little to nothing about Europe so perhaps someone here could tell me if that would be a good time to go skiing there? I have no idea what their seasons run like.

September is a bad time to ski - their season runs much like North America. They do have some big glaciers, though, so you *might* be able to find something to ski on in September. I wouldn't expect much, though.
