Where to learn X-C

I've wanted to take up cross country for years, and now we are moving to Iowa where there will be more snow and parks to go to in the winter. But where can I learn to do cross country? Boarding came easy because I skateboard (longboard), and I learned downhill skiing as a child... so this whole learning a new snow-sport is kinda new to me.
