Post So I turn 40 this March and..

Decided to book a trip to AK. I conned my brother and a couple other buddies into taking the trip which will consist of 3 days at Alyeska resort and 3 days with Chugach Powder Guides. Has anyone gone up with these guys? I've never gone Heli skiing and was just wondering if anyone has done trips with these guys before? Any ideas on our best bet to make the trip as good as possible? I'll definately check out the AV schooling Gnurider posted. Just looking for info about Chugach/Alyeska if anyone has any inputs.

Thanks in advance!

chugach powder guides is the heli-skiing operation that teton gravity research uses when they are shooting up in alaska. so they are definitely a reputable company.

bring a powder specific board/pair of skis, that's about the only other thing i can add aside from the fact that i am extremely jealous.

I did a ton of research and came up with Chugach because the trip we planned costs a lot less than most Heli only trips. Also it's the only company located at/near a ski area so there is a triple backup, if the Helo doesn't fly you can get on their cats, if that doesn't work out there is still a decent ski area to fall back on. Seemed like the most resonable deal that I could afford. I still have 4 months to pay for it!

Have fun up there!

I want to go heli, but I'm angling towards the Interior BC operations. The draw of cold smoke is hard to resist....

By the sounds of it, chugach sounds like the way to go. Anyways, have fun and bring back lots of picks for all of us trapped in the lower 48.

You got the part I was going to say. Before you drop all that $$$ make sure you there is a back up. I've never been, but heard of people who spent the money, went to Valdez only to wait out a storm and never get off the ground. Looks like you have that covered. Have fun!

I live in AK now and I have to say that when Alyeska is good it is really good but ost of the time there either isn't much fresh snow or its wet. I haven't skiied with Chugach but I do know that the BC there is fantastic. Just try to get away from the water, thats why I spend most of my time skiing a bit more interior.
