There's a lot of stuff around Fisherman's Wharf, it's the easy tourist spot, good views of the golden gate bridge, alcatraz and lots of tourist shops & restaurants...
Our buddy lives in Bernal Heights so we always stay in that neighborhood, and hang out more in the sketchy Mission. I really like Golden Gate Park where it meets Ocean Beach, and then head up to the Cliff House and the ruins of the Sutro Baths... walking up the Filmore Steps is pretty awesome and Coit Tower has a great view of the city. If you have a car head over the golden gate and check out the redwoods at Muir Woods. And yeah, early lunch dim sum in chinatown would be great.
maybe someone who lives closer could give you better tips.

sounds like good tips.. i ll poach a few of them when my missus gets back in just over 50 days ... think i ll like chinatown.. i really enjoyed chinatown in waikiki last week... not quite the typical american 'chinese cusine' i haven t enjoyed in the states... real food... very cool... we re gonna do the tourist thing in SF for sure... rubber necks

hey RR, i might be in for a mon / tues ride at homewood if ya keen...

hey parts... when you and the misses you should drive out and check out muir woods like ben says...
does the lady like to ride bikes too? golden gate is a nice casual road ride. there are big wide bike paths to cruise around.

and just outside of the city is pacifica. some really fun mtn biking to be had. maybe we could time a visit around the same time.

but i imagine after 50 days w/out the missus you might want to hang out with just her.

thanks amy.. yeah, the missus rides... nothin hardcore, she just likes to cruise... she has a nice SC juliana that we pimped out for her... she enjoys that bike.. i think she ll enjoy the local 'pioneer trail'... you guys will have to come down here and ride it... about 35 km of sweet singletrack (well 85% singletrack)... best part is that it s about the same (85%) downhill... not DH downhill, but rolling hills with some nice little jumps and hits...

it s been a long year with the lady away, but 55 days or so more seems like nothing.... we re stoked... she made a big sacrifice so we could live here... we re both thankful for that... me especially, i love it here...

we ll definately do some riding together this season... i m stoked for d-ville again... got 6 shuttles in there last summer... i plan on at least double that this season

Best places to hang out w/kids-

Crissy Field/Presidio - Restored habitat, cool displays, the exploratorium is right there. Great for kids. You don't need to deal with the craploads of tourists at Fishermans Warf.

Sutro Baths/Lands End/Ocean Beach/Dutch Windmill - All in the same general area. The hike from Sutro Baths along the cliffs to Lands End is gorgeous, and it's not crowded.

Baker Beach - This is the best beach in SF by far. Near the Golden Gate Bridge. This is where Burning Man started.

Japanese Tea Gardens - Touristy, but beautiful. Kids may get bored though.

San Francisco Zoo - great zoo for kids. The playground is huge.

If anyone is ever in town and wants to do some serious mountain biking, lemme know. I know just about everything in Marin.

Oh yeah, don't eat around Pier 39 if you can help it. Expensive and not that great. What kind of food/price range are you looking for?
