TR: 2/16 - 2/17/07 Devil's Head brings the SUCK!!

So Thursday night my group piles in the family truckster to head up to Devil's Head in the great state of WI. We arrive at the WI Dell's Hilton around 9:30pm clean up and head out to the local watering hole for some beers and fun.

We get all bodies to report for revalry at 10am and hit the road for the short trip to the wonderful DH resort and are on the hill at 11. It is about 10 degrees with 20mph winds. So we board for about 2 hours then in for lunch and beer and this pattern continues until about 5 when the slopes close for afternoon grooming. We decide to head back to the hotel becasue it's a little chilly and DH can only hold your attention so long. So me and the 5 others we are with stop off at the bathroom before hitting the road. When I come out of the head my Burton Air 165 with Cartel bindings was GONE!! We frantically scatter inthe parking lot and check cars while others are checking the ski racks etc. to try and find my stolen gear. Alas my board was never found. I called the police and filled a report but I'm sure it will do no good.

In my depresion I drove to Barabo and went to a local bike/ski/board shop and talked to them about my loss. They were so sympathetic they hooked my up with a Burton Custom with new Cartel bindings for a killer deal saving my weekend, at least for now.

Saturday we hit the slopes with eagle eyes hoping to recover my old gear and to break in the new stuff. The new board is awesome and I enjoy it all day and into the night. The old gear is never to be seen again.

Now you may ask what is a TR without pictures?

Well the answer is.............my camera was stolen also. Out of my buddies car.

So there is my first Trai Report on my last visit to Devil's Head.

Questions, Comments, Complaints?

wow. not your weekend, eh?

did you pay for your gear w/ your credit card? do you have receipts? If so....If you contact your credit card company w/ the police report you can get reimbursed. Has happened to 2 of my friends.

can you just do some stick figure drawings of your weekend? then scan them and put them up?

at least no one got hurt. stolen gear > broken friends

Not my weekend at all.

I did get a new board but it wasn't money I was planning on spending. And checking out everyone's gear as they come down the mountain takes away from the fun of boarding a little bit.

I am pretty sure I paid in cash for my old stuff so I am SOL.

Wow. Midwestern skiing at it's finest.

If I find that bahstid that stole your board I'll drown him in some fluffy powder.

When I was at the shop telling them what happened they were saying that at Cascade (another hill down the street) has a ski/board check and that they run stings to catch thiefs 3 times a week. They have never caught a single person.

At Devil's Head they used to run stings and they would catch 10 people in a weekend. Devils Head runs no ski/board check and has no lockable storage places.

The owner of the shop thought that because Cascade has more difficult terrain (not by much) that the customers were more respectful of other peoples stuff.

Either way Devil's Head will no longer get my business. Since I have bad luck there.

I accomplish the same thing by skiing on skis so old and $hitty that nobody would *want* to steal 'em.
