Waterproofing? What do you need waterproofing for? The snow out here is *dry*...

Edit: there is a wash-in Nixwax product that is supposed to restore the DWR on garments, and Goretex... well, it's supposed to maintain its waterproofness for years.

Maybe you don't go often enough?
Or maybe you buy crap?

i've tried the wash in waterproofing on my stuff. doesn't really work.

And yes... our storm out here are typically wetter. so a really high waterproofing is key.

If it's Goretex than it should be waterproof regardless of whether the outer nylon is water repellent. If it isn't (and it *is* Goretex) send the garment back for replacement.

I think the reason for low durability is that I fall very often.
Plus, boarders are in contact with the snow way more often than skiers due to differences in stance.

I wear through the knees, and a$$ on my pants like crazy.
My gloves wear out from touching stuff all the time.

I only use the Nikwax TechWash to wash my stuff (to prevent washing out the waterproof coating) and I find that their TX-Direct works very well at restoring the waterproofness. Certainly doesn't last years though.

It doesn't work very well on holes though.
I guess that is why God invented Duct Tape

Am I the only one who finds this slightly disturbing?

bwah ha ha.

yeah. i guess indicating that you are wearing out the knees and bum of your pants indicates some other suspicious mountain side activities. maybe you should just indicate to your 'partner' next time to be gentle as snow gear is very expensive.
