TR: Kirkwood 3/2

Took a mental health day off work and went up to Kwood on Friday.

I was feeling sketch driving up in my new WRX because I'm used to my Pathfinder. Then the guy in an SUV right in front of me wound up wrecking into the embankment after sliding out. The scooby held traction fine

Made it up to the mountain and picked up my season pass (2 free with the car!). I'd been super stressed out for awhile to the point of being depressed, and sitting on that chair watching the snow cascade over the wall with the sun beaming down put a smile on my face so big I practically had tears in my eyes. The day really put my head back in place regarding what matters in life. At one point I was listening to U2 Live Under a Blood Red Sky, and at just the moment Bono says - "This is Red Rocks", I was dropping into Red Cliffs. It was just one of those days where everything comes together. At some point in the day I lost one of my cameras, I think somewhere under the Wave (I had one pretty good wreck dropping in at the end of the day - kinda bumpy by that point). That was my one bummer of the day, but I rationalized that if that was the price of my sanity back, it was worth it. Today I called Kirkwood and someone actually turned it in.

As far as the conditions - they were epic, especially in the morning. It started out soft and fluffy off the beaten path, and although it got heavier throughout the day, it was still soft enough to make you feel like superman, and you couldn't have begged for better weather. The Wave, while not very high yet, still had a section with a decent 15 foot drop. Even the drop under chair 4 was obscenely fun all day. There was still some untracked fun to the left and right off chair 6 if you hiked far enough.

Overall, I don't think I've ever had a better day on the mountain.

STI's are fast as hell. They don't come in a wagon though, and the suspension is stiffer then I'd like for everyday driving.

Ha ha everything you just said is why I like the STI lol. I hate wagons and I don't mind the stiff ride it just makes them handle better. I'm used to driving trucks lol.

The wagon isn't the best looking thing in the world, but I can't haul all my outdoor gear in a sedan. I'd love to have an STI for a play car though, then I wouldn't care about carrying capacity or the suspension.
