There are mountains in the Western USA, mountains in the Eastern USA, and then there are landfills and tiny bumps on the ground that are MARKETED as mountains in the Midwest USA.
Take the best resort in Illinois for example: Chestnut Mountain, with it's whopping 450 foot vertical. What is that? 1/2 a run in CO? But in Illinois it is worth a 3 hour drive to get to. There are lots of midwest resorts, they just all suck.

And don't worry we would still talk to you. And when you wanted to feel good about your decision to move to Tahoe, you could always visit. | Yes, the new guy Craig is definately from the midwest. I'd love an MW forum. I only picked up Snowboarding about 4 years ago. I taught my girlfriend how to do it 2 years ago, and other then her, I don't know many riders around this area. It would be great to talk about my home resorts with people! They may suck, but they're all we've got! |

Midwesterners like to ride more than they like to ski. The variety of riding regular and fakie, doing butters and such, helps keep us entertained on those tiny hills. |

Craig, as the FNG, I delegate said analysis to you. |

MI has 40
NY has 36
CA has 28
CO has 25
WI has 24 |

| Since Craig is a fellow midwesterner I am surprised that any of you would consider his analysis as valid.
MI has the most resorts in the US? That can't be right?!?!?
The reason Craig did not confirm WI as #2 is obviously due to a conspiracy. The feud between MN and WI is legendary and long standing. It mainly revolves around MN only having 16 resorts and feeling inferior to WI. It also has to do with the rather arbitrary designation of the Mississippi River as the border between the two states. Most Minnesotans believe that the dividing line should be longitudinal from the tip of MN's Arrowhead southward. This would put at least seven more resorts under MN's control including the world famous Trollhaugen with its massive 280ft vertical drop. |

The only resort near the metro area that seems to be worth a lift ticket is Afton Alps, but they're a bit stingy with the snow machines, so the conditions can be prety bad there.
Wild Mountain is nice just because it's about 1 hour North East of the cities, which means that there are usually a few less non-supervised kids there, then someplace like Buck Hill. This is why I often teach my friends to ride here. I'd imagine that Trollhaugen, across the St. Croix, is probably similar in this regard. Also, because they're the furthest north, while still considered part of the metro area, they usually open a bit earlier then other resorts here, just from my experience. |

| Well I'll be jiggered...Michigan is the ski capital of the US. The apocolypse has officially arrived. |
