backcountry forum?

i was thinking and this would be a pretty good forum as we have a few people who venture into the backcountry quite regularly and plenty of people who would like to venture there. it would be a good place to discuss safety equipment, proper techniques, etc etc.

I think you are on to something here, Beaker.

good idea.

i think it would be nice to have a place where even beginners to the bc feel safe to come and ask questions. too much snobbery when it comes to people talking about the backcountry sometimes.

How about a Midwest Forum for us unfortunate types, so we don't have to be constantly put down by SS's elitisim?

It isn't as if I think SS would stay out of it anyhow. It's just that the USA destinations categories don't really make sense.

There are mountains in the Western USA, mountains in the Eastern USA, and then there are landfills and tiny bumps on the ground that are MARKETED as mountains in the Midwest USA.

Take the best resort in Illinois for example: Chestnut Mountain, with it's whopping 450 foot vertical. What is that? 1/2 a run in CO? But in Illinois it is worth a 3 hour drive to get to. There are lots of midwest resorts, they just all suck.

There are lots of midwesterners here too, there is Me, HUM, ohiorider, that new guy Craig, Lickquid, maybe more.

And don't worry we would still talk to you. And when you wanted to feel good about your decision to move to Tahoe, you could always visit.
