From what I've heard, the triples are just horribly steep, but with trees and rocks, a lot of the stuff up there is major glade skiing. Intense galde skiing. Does anyone know anywhere else where they have triple blacks?

Public Service Announcement: Bohemia's "triple blacks" are a marketing gimmick. Look at their "extreme" pictures on their website.

Triple black. Gimme a break.

Of course - maybe they're just giving a "relative" measurement compared to some place like Mount Holly.

That's pretty much how my local mountain, Mt Sokane, is. They list black diamonds, which would be quadruple blacks compared to places in the midwest, but rated blue square to the big Colorado resorts.

Theoretically, you could make a blue square run into a black diamond, by, pointing your boards (or board) straight downhill and not turning. Just keep going faster and faster until your Skaredshtles....hey, wait a minute, where have I heard that name before?

Exactly. I'd bet dollars to donuts that if you compared Mt. Bohemia's triple blacks to Crested Butte's or Jackson Hole's double blacks the difference would be laughable.

Yeah - that would be a single black at Steamboat. I'm not saying that they don't have steep glades - just that triple black is a marketing ploy. That's all.

When someone talks double black, I think about stuff like this:

Is that Corbet's? Let's hope so!!!

Smuggler's Notch in central VT claims a triple black as well (Black Hole) but I'm with the rest where this is a relative measure. I was doing Black Diamonds at Hunter and they would have been blues at Jay.

But get on Harmony Horseshoe or Spanky's at Whistler and the pucker factor is significantly increased.

Has anyone personally skied the triple black at Bohemia and blacks at one of the big Western resorts that can correlate? My guess is it is not as nasty as say High Rustler at Alta...

I was at Whistler last year and the single blacks (Harmony, Franz's etc.) weren't quite as tough as Bohemia's triples. I didn't have the guts to ride any doubles out there since I was by myself
