I don't want to join this board and get slammed for riding Skiboards.

I'm not riding the stupid mini-skis that they rent at the resorts to noobs. I ride pro model boards which are about twice as wide as normal skis. Trust me they are as difficult if not more difficult to ride than normal skis.

However once over this curve they are alot of fun, I can do carves that I couldn't do on skis, and now the terrain park is an option.

I'm afraid skiers/boarders out there think skiboards are for kids and noobs.

While I must admit most people riding skiboards fall into this category, I must state that I am not one of them.

i'm Jordan
I go by the same name on RM and many other forums. I've boarded for about 4 years now, and am joining ski patrol at my local mountain this year. I enjoy riding anything steep and deep, and backcountry is rad, but you'll usually find me sessioning park kickers ( and scraping groms off them ). I ride a Salomon Forecast 159 with Technine Wildcat bindings (red)

yeah I hear that... and how the hell are you supposed to enjoy powder on those ice skates anyways. Seems youd be doing more walking than floating?

Well I used to ski, and one time my friend loaded the wrong skis in the car and I was forced to rent. So for the heck of it, I rented skiboards. I found them quite enjoyable and I decided I would buy a pair.

Regarding looking cool, I'm not really worried about that, and I usually get lots of positive comments, and questions when I'm out on the slopes.

About the only thing I can think of that you can do on skis that you can't do on Skiboards is go REALLY fast. But Skiboards go plenty fast for me.

Skiboards are alot less hassle to transport back and forth to the slopes than skis and snowboards.
With Skiboards you don't really need poles (I don't use them)
Skiboards are allowed in the terrain parks
Skiboards carve like snowboards
Skiboards require alot less maintenance than skis

The only disadvantages with skiboards is that they don't go through powder as well as long skis, and they are harder to control at high speeds than skis.

If you are intrested in seeing the type of stuff I do, see the video on http://www.skiboardsonline.com (of course I'm not quite as good as these guys)

The skiboards I have are 99cm and 14cm wide at tip and tail and 11cm wide at the waist. Based on some estimates these skiboards have a surface area of about 1300 cm(2). I estimated a pair of 180 cm all mountain skis have a surface area of about 1600 cm(2). So the difference isn't that great. Skiboards don't skink up as much as you would think.

Trust me I was at Winter Park colorado last year on a powder day and I enjoyed myself just fine.
