| anyone tried the burton splitboard?

ive been considering it, but the whole split in half thing might make me hesitate when it comes to getting air. now, i dont go hitting up the jumps in the park, but i do get decent air off of bumps and drops on the trail. i will be using this board on normal mountains since i cant afford more than one board, but i also do plan to hit up a bunch of local backcountry since it looks like itll be a good season. i hate hiking through snow when doing backcountry runs so a splitboard sounds like a good solution.

| I don't know if a splitboard is really a good idea for everyday riding, but to each his own.
#1 - Check this out: www.bombersplitboards.com
#2 - You may want to consider making your own splitboard out of an old board. I have a couple of friends who have done this and they say it is pretty easy. You may be able to afford a splitboard and a normal board if you make your own.

Good luck. | well im not about to buy another board just to cut it in half and i dont think a 150 freestyle board will do too well for backcountry. but thanks for the tip. | |

| a friend of mine has one of the split boards and absolutely loves it for backcountry he rips on it, but he won't use it at a resort simply because he says it just doesn't handle well compared to his normal board. If thats all you can afford though it would be doable. | |

| I've always thought it would be funny to take a splitboard to a resort such as Deer Valley that only allows skiing, and ride up the lift with it split, but come down with it as a board. You would get a lot of confused glances for sure. | |

You would get a lot of confused glances for sure. | if i got the jay/bolton/mad river pass and had a split board i would definitely try that at mad river, but it's not worth the price of a lift ticket. maybe one of these days i'll get up somewhat early and hike to the top to ride down right under the lifts when they open. | |

| I ran a split for years before finally giving in to rondo set ups. they work great, a little more flex than normal boards but the pros outway the cons. make sure you get synthetic skins, no mohair for the split board.synthetic skins wont hold the water as much or freeze since there is so much contact area. the other thing to consider is you absoletley have to condition your board surface every couple weeks if you skin alot. it takes alot out of your glide speed.
I think you will really be impressed by what you are able to achieve with the split. dont listen to the fashion hype or the know it all groms. | |
